Afro-house’s 778% production boom: what the numbers really say

Splice and MIDiA identify Afro-house as their Sound of the Year. The data tells a compelling story—and has limits.

Afro-house recorded 778% year-on-year growth in sample downloads on Splice, according to the Sounds of 2026 research published with MIDiA. Downloads increased from roughly 760,000 in 2024 to 6.67 million in 2025.

That is evidence of intense producer interest, not a calculation of total streaming audiences or venue ticket sales. The distinction matters when music-industry statistics are converted into headlines about cultural influence.

The report also records growing interest across international production markets. For African creators, the bigger conversation is whether rising demand for the sound translates into fair recognition, sustainable touring opportunities and stronger regional music businesses.

Success should be measured across several dimensions: original artists’ visibility, the value of their catalogues, the communities supplying creative ideas and the routes by which those communities benefit.
